19 killed as their truck collapse with a bridge
Lamka, Jan 17: Nineteen people mostly residents of Behiang, a village bordering Myanmar were killed in a mishap today as a passengers truck they were traveling collapse with a bridge they passes through at Sehken village.
occurred when a newly constructed wooden bridge laid in between Hiangtam and Sehken village collapse with the passenger truck that passes through. Sixteen dead bodies were allegedly retrieved from the spot while another three succumbs while enroute to Singngat. In all thirty three injured being brought to the hospital here at around 7:45pm. Moments before the victims arrive here, Dr T Shoute told this correspondent that all resources within the capacity of the district hospital has been utilized and that they along with Doctors and nurses from MSF and Army were ready to tackle any eventualities. DC/CCpur Sumant Singh who personally receive the injured and supervise the treatment said help was sought from every government machineries within his purview. We are even planning to relocate some of the injured to the Army and BSF hospitals, he said.
Further the DC said that a ministerial team will be visiting the spot for first hand enquiry tomorrow. A reliable source informed the media today that the bridge that was responsible for today’s tragedy was constructed under by one Kamzamang and was inaugurated only on the last part of last year. It is not known what action the ministerial team will initiate, but it is said that relief packages for the victims will be announced by them.
The dead bodies were shifted to their own village later in the day as the Chief Minister is said to have personally instructed the district administration to conduct post-mortem at their own villages.
